Tarlton — Two teenagers, aged 17 and 13, were arrested recently for illegal mining and for being in possession of gold bearing material, says Tarlton police.

Constable Lucky Matome, a Tarlton Police spokespersperson says the arrest was made after an anonymous tip was received by members of the community about alleged illegal mining activities at plot 22 in Vlakplaats.

“The police acted upon the information, which led to the arrest of the two suspects and also led to the recovery of generators, bags full of sand and a wheelbarrow.”

The duo were taken to the Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Care Centre in Johannesburg where they will remain until their appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

The Acting Station Commander of Tarlton police, Captain Phaahla applauded the members and the community for a good working relationship in fighting crime.
