MULDERSDRIFT — This proverb will ring true this coming Saturday, 22 April when bird lovers will get an opportunity to sell and/or showcase their precious feathered friends at the Bosheuvel Vere/Feathers market.

Mitch van den Bos, owner of Bosheuvel Country Estate told LocalBizLocator, DigitNewsBusiness Directory, that they have been approached by local bird farmers to hold such an event as a way to attract the younger generation.

“These farmers are concerned about the drop in young people who are no longer showing an interest in farming with birds or keeping birds for show – as part of a hobby,” he said.

For the children there will be entertainment such as painting, a jumping castle, farm animals to see and popcorn will be on offer.

“But to get the young to see and appreciate this leisure activity is not the only reason: we are hosting this event as a means to provide a unique opportunity for bird lovers from all over to meet, network, buy and sell birds and related products.”

Some of the birds that will be available include finches, parrots, parakeets and doves. There will also be seed, feeds, medication, cages, travel- and nest boxes, as well as wire products available for purchase.

“A number of breeders, buyers, exporters and industry suppliers have already confirmed attendance,” said Van den Bos excitedly.

“A veterinary doctor will be on duty to assist with bird sex classificacition and general veterinary services.”

The venue has ample parking, a restaurant and bar area, and stay-over accomodation at affordable rates.

For the children there will be entertainment such as painting, a jumping castle, farm animals to see and popcorn will be on offer.

“We want to hold this event two times a year if this event is successful,” said Van den Bos.
